If you’ve been keeping up, here’s number five of the custom painted slip on Vans shoes that I’ve completed. I believe these are on display in the Vans, Inc. retail store in Dallas, TX.

This is a hand-painted skateboard deck for a local skateboard shop, Arockalypse. Their latest art show, “On Deck”, featured about 40 custom-painted decks. The show was amazing. Lots of great artists on the wall and the crowd was awesome. Think Ink’s artists were there (Josh Crain, David Bruehl and Fernando) representing some really nice talent. And as always, TDS (The Death Squad), Oklahoma City’s premiere skate crew, were there with a blinged-out board on 24’s, well they were 5’s but they kept ‘em clean. I just finished this poster for the Tall Cotton String Band and their New Year’s Eve concert at VZD’s in Oklahoma City. I did this all by hand with Prismacolor markers and a white paint pen. The only part that was done by computer was the lower right call out for the door cover. This was a lot of fun, especially doing something without the computer. We as designers seem so tied to our comps that we forget what can be accomplished without them. Granted, the comic book style fits the theme and required a hand-illustrated look, but nevertheless it was fun to work without the computer for once. If you’re in the Oklahoma City and are not going to see the Flaming Lips for New Year’s Eve 2007, then you should go see Tall Cotton at VZD’s, for sure. Peep their MySpace here.

This is a t-shirt design that I did for the Gunnison Brewery in Gunnison, Colorado. I’ve never been there, but I’ve done posters and designs for several bands that have strolled through their venue on Colorado tours. After seeing a poster I did for Mama’s Cookin’. Lori, the owner, called me up and asked if I would like to do their annual t-shirt. So, I illustrated this with paint markers and finalized it in Photoshop. Lori said that it’s her favorite t-shirt they’ve every done and have had to place several reorders due to the shirts selling out! Awesome.

The Tulsa Reggae Festival Poster was a lot of fun to work on. I used an old icon found on a Rita Marley poster I smuggled all the way from Barcelona. I re-illustrated the center heart with the eye and then added the wings, rays and regal imagery. This was all illustrated in Illustrator CS2. Printed on recycled paper. This graphic was also added to handbills, advertising and t-shirts that sold extremely well. This year, I heard they had 15,000 attendees — WOW!

I painted this for an art show at The Office, in Portland, OR in 2007. It was curated by Richard Jones, of United Design Group. Richard’s been a huge asset to the art community of Portland and it was an honor to be in the show. The concept was to paint on album covers incorporating an existing element of the printed graphics. It was challenging, but it was fun. It really pushed my boundaries and I enjoy the outcome. Sorry if it freaks anybody out.

A T-Shirt illustration for Stall Gear, a kayak clothing company based out of Oklahoma. I had to separate the colors for the screen press … geez that was hard.

Mama’s Cookin’ is a band from Colorado. This was the first project I did with them. It was a huge success. Their fans liked it so much, they turned it into a t-shirt and had to do reprints to keep up with demand. This poster was for their New Year’s Show in Telluride, CO. We did a limited edition screen printed run at Diesel Engine Prints.
