Painted these for the Canvas Art Show here in Oklahoma City. The show was amazing. I believe 1500 people made it through the door that night. The venue was incredible—hardwood floors, track lighting, full bar, dj’s and a huge dance floor with over 125 shoes on display. We danced our asses off to DJ Diverse — he’s the shit. There was also a 4 x 8 art piece that all of the artists collaboratively worked on at the show, which was auctioned off at the end. All of the shoes were amazing. This event put the one in Portland, OR to shame, which I never thought I would say that, but it’s true. Oklahoma City has a great art scene and some really bad ass artists. I feel fortunate to live here. I can’t wait till next year’s show. Enjoy!

This is a hand-painted skateboard deck for a local skateboard shop, Arockalypse. Their latest art show, “On Deck”, featured about 40 custom-painted decks. The show was amazing. Lots of great artists on the wall and the crowd was awesome. Think Ink’s artists were there (Josh Crain, David Bruehl and Fernando) representing some really nice talent. And as always, TDS (The Death Squad), Oklahoma City’s premiere skate crew, were there with a blinged-out board on 24’s, well they were 5’s but they kept ‘em clean. We discovered the other day that one of our latest website builds, The Cottonseed Oil Tour, which we did for the National Cottonseed Products Association, was picked up as an example for a recent web design article, “2007: More Web Design Trends & Cliches.” It was published by Modern Life, from the United Kingdom, which boasts as “a series of insights and research into the world of the web — presented in such a way as to be informative yet entertaining.” The article highlights 2007’s web design trends. What an honor to have been used as an example under “#5 - High Texture Designs.”

I just finished this poster for the Dreamer Concepts Studio Foundation (DCSF). They are a nonprofit art gallery dedicated to providing an avenue for young and upcoming artists. This poster is for their current “Call For Entries”. If you are an artist this is a great gallery to submit work to. They have monthly exhibits and draw a large crowd. After meeting the founder, Amber Clour (who is an awesome person) she asked me to sit on their board. I just finished this poster for the Tall Cotton String Band and their New Year’s Eve concert at VZD’s in Oklahoma City. I did this all by hand with Prismacolor markers and a white paint pen. The only part that was done by computer was the lower right call out for the door cover. This was a lot of fun, especially doing something without the computer. We as designers seem so tied to our comps that we forget what can be accomplished without them. Granted, the comic book style fits the theme and required a hand-illustrated look, but nevertheless it was fun to work without the computer for once. If you’re in the Oklahoma City and are not going to see the Flaming Lips for New Year’s Eve 2007, then you should go see Tall Cotton at VZD’s, for sure. Peep their MySpace here.

One great thing about Oklahoma is that there is an overwhelming amount of talent here. I ran into Adam Sarmiento, the other day, and he told me to check out his site and what he’s been up to. After spending about an hour surfing on his site, I just had to post this truly amazing video. It’s called “I Can See” by the band I and I . The music and video was written, performed and edited by Adam Sarmiento. Credits also go to his wife, Amber for editing and direction. Adam and Amber are some of the most beautiful people I know and I feel blessed to call them close friends. Adam’s music has been running through my ears since 1995 when he was a drummer for The New Tribe with his brother, Eric Sarmiento. Both Eric and Adam are amazing musicians. Well, well, well … it looks like the Oklahoma Vortex sucked us back in, AGAIN. Due to some personal family reasons, we had to move back to Oklahoma City. It’s bitter sweet — leaving Portland friends and clients but reconnecting with old friends and chasing new leads. Fortunately, there seems to be a lot going on with art walks, parades and great music. And there seems to be a big emphasis on biking everywhere, too. Which is great, because I can’t stand driving. So, I’m looking forward to living here for at least the next few years as my situation seems unchangeable. Hopefully, it will lead to some great art shows and more creative work. We shall see. For now, enjoy the tattooed knucks of a fellow Oklahomey.

This website was a ton of fun to work on. All in all, it went off without a hitch. Harvest PR brought me and the team on to design a website to host an awesome PR campaign to promote the use of Cottonseed Oil in the restaurant and food manufacturing industry. They came up with the concept, which they let us run with and run we did. I absolutely love the way this turned out and I think we all agree that we were privileged to work on such a nice site. AMS did the coding (of course) and the launch and Tim Hill did the flash animation on the Tour Page. I designed all of the graphics and Art Directed the project. Visit site, here.

Oregon Dukkah is an addictive dry dip of hazelnuts and exotic spices. It’s a great product and I was honored when the owner approached me to redesign their packaging and brand. We dived into research and established the brand identity of Oregon Dukkah. With that knowledge, we developed this logo, website and packaging. The packaging was printed at Rose City Packaging & Printing with 5 colors and a spot gloss…yummy. Since then, we’ve developed a whole slew of items like sell sheets, business cards, advertising and letterheads.

I was really excited to be included in this project, given to me by AMS. Joseph and Mike Lepis put me down as Art Director on this project and also allowed me to design the majority of the graphics. The website was a huge success with the client, Lanikai Properties. It functions as a real estate website for Lanikai, HI, which was challenging when trying to incorporate lots of custom graphics. The design incorporates images that conjure the Hawaii lifestyle — surfing, lounging at the beach and other things like bamboo and palm trees.
